BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is the oldest assessment method, rating and certification of the sustainability of buildings in the world, applicable to both old and new buildings. This environmental performance of a building was first developed by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) in 1990 in the UK.
BREEAM is an analysis carried out by independent accredited assessors using sustainability metrics and indices with scientifically based sustainability indices and indices covering a range of environmental aspects. Based on these indicators the building obtains a final rating that ranging from "Acceptable" (only for buildings already in use) to "Pass", "Good", "Very Good", "Excellent" and "Outstanding".
BREEAM includes several general categories of sustainability for assessment, the key ones being the following:
iResidence North is the only apartment complex under development in Bucharest in the process of BREEAM Excellent, certification, being in the top 10%* of buildings designed and built according to best practices for the future, guaranteeing sustainability and respect for the environment.
The main benefits of achieving BREEAM Excellent certification include a strong commitment to the present and future environment and sustainability,
energy efficiency, increased comfort, longevity of investment profitability, social responsibility, positive image, mitigation of environmental impact,
carbon footprint and energy and maintenance costs, which in the long term can lead to significant financial savings.
The BREEAM Excellent standard also promotes a healthy and safe living or working environment contributing to the improved health and well-being of occupants.
All these advantages inevitably lead to increased investment, increased property value over time due to the longer life of the buildings, reduced maintenance and reduced operating costs.
